I visit my local zoo on a regular basis. They have a very nice reptile house and the butterfly greenhouse is good too. The latter is where I took the picture below. It was the first and last time I saw this flower. I have never seen a flower like this anywhere else (in all honesty I didn’t look very hard. There are billions of different flower species and races). Nevertheless I think it’s one of the more amazing flowers in existence, which makes it all the more frustrating to have had only a single go at taking a picture.
Change encounters like the flower are both nice and frustrating. It’s simply delightful to be surprised by subjects that offer themselves. On the other hand, there is usually only a single chance (or a single occasion) to make the picture. In other words, there is some pressure to achieve. I have been annoyed many times when my pictures of chance encounters failed. However, it is good to know that change encounters will keep occuring and there is always another chance of doing it right.
